Talking: Stephanie in the Water, her 6th world title, the ASP and recovering her winning ways.
UNDER the Weather is a proposed NZ surf film project documenting the often overlooked New Zealand surf scene, but it needs your help to get off the ground. You can back this campaign here. B’s and C’s become webclips; A’s become a movie. A simple concept really. Hold back the best clips, put the rest online. This is the formula that will be used for a proposed new surfing film. Working title: Under The Weather. Over the past 12 months I have been collecting clips, filming on various stints and locking away the gold. I estimate I might have half a film in the archives, but want to finish the thing and do it properly. A lot of the stuff is quite recent; some was shot today. I find it important to do a lot of work with the surfers to ensure the camera is rolling when they nail something. They are a fickle bunch after all. I also find that these guys actually do get better each year. Take Ricardo Christie for example; last year he put together a great section for Taylor Steeles Innersection movie. Last month he nailed at least 5 clips that would have made the cut for that film. The guys I choose to work with are in my opinion the best this country has to offer, and as this project develops I will be looking to grow this group and make sure I get work done with the surfers who have the skills. Hopefully the trailor video gives you an idea. Under The Weather is the working title for this film, but in reality it is not yet officially a film - it’s still just a concept. That’s where the people come in – that would be you. All filming for this project will take place inside New Zealand, combining high performance surfing with the authentic settings of Aotearoa. I estimate at least 12 to 15 weeks are needed to complete the production necessary to get this thing up to speed. Making a surf film is a journey and doesn’t happen overnight. The beauty of this project is that it isn’t just a film. Longwhitecloud.tv will keep you entertained every week with video updates and short clippings of goodness we find along the way. The project will unfold before your eyes, an ongoing preview of the film that’s being made. The process is as important as the final outcome. Three and a half months of entertainment. That’s the plan. If this project exceeds its funding target I will use the extra money to increase the production values. This may involve hiring extra crew and gear, making sure we get to places we need to where the waves are best, possibly the occasional hotel room along the way. Anything will help. It may also mean that we spend a couple of extra weeks filming, which will mean more web content, a better film, and an entertained audience. Be sure to keep up to date with the regular video updates as the campaign unfolds. All new content will be found on longwhitecloud.tv or you can back this campaign here
