Rip Curl Cup at Padang Padang Called ON

by on Friday 2nd August, 2013   14261 Visits   Comments

THE Rip Curl Cup will be live next week, either Tuesday or the weekend, whispers the official call. Why is this exciting? For the first time this event will be webcast for your enjoyment.16 of the world’s best go up against 16 Indonesian specialists at the best wave on the Bukit.

Technology leads to complications when you want to achieve more than posting a Vine vid from the cliff top. The web team for this event have been hanging on tenterhooks for the past month, ready to book tickets and ship gear over to Indonesia at only a couple of days notice. That moment has arrived. The klaxon has sounded, echoed in the click-clack reply of Peli cases snapping shut, and soon all that gear will be assembled overlooking Padang Padang. Heck, no-one has watched an event live from here before, this is all new.

“Following last weekend’s short-lived blast, Tuesday sees a more typical winter swell arrive with some power and good direction to find the reef at Padang Padang. Says event forecaster, Ben Freeston. Topping out at a forecast 7.5ft@17seconds it’s not huge but will produce decent waves around some tricky high tides, all groomed by the consistent dry season offshores. Moving into the weekend we have another pulse, which at the moment looks extremly promising.”
