Dotted around this fabled spot and there sewage outflows and when people flush the wrong objects down their toilets these bad boys block the outflow. Think cotton buds, tampons, sanitary pads, condoms and razors. All pretty unsanitary. These party-poopers clog up the pumps and pipes, reducing the potential flow, backing up the waste, and out it comes from the untreated overflows. Raw sewage and detritus straight into the sea, hardly the welcome you want to be greeted with after being spat out into the channel.© 2014 Geoff Tydeman
