We have a bit of a confession to make, we lied to you. You remember that endless Angolan wave? Well Kepa Acero joined the surfers on that trip; in fact he had surfed the area back in 2012 and returned in 2013 with Dane Gudauskas to make this movie, just prior to the swell which lit up the point.
Kepa was even surfing at the same time as Davey and Benji Brand (after Dane G had returned home), but in order to protect this film project we had to pretend he wasn’t there. Sorry about that. Almost nothing on this Earth is undiscovered and Under Desert Sun, by Kevin Voegtlin, documents a wonderful mission to waves which have been breaking for hundreds, if not thousands of years, with and without people watching and riding them.
What does still exist in plenty are waves for those surfers willing to travel to inhospitable locations. This grizzled adventurer spirit is typified in the chippy Basque barrel fiend Kepa and the shock of blond Dane Gudauskas as they explore and document one perspective of Angola.
It may be too late for the ASP Big Wave World Tour, but Dungeons lit up.
Conor Maguire harks towards a time when the cold and dark wraps back in and the lows deepen, spinning thick ropes of swell towards Ireland.
Italy has waves and Sardinia has some of the best spots, places you would not believe. Leonardo Fioravanti knows that better than most...
From the Caribbean to Nova Scotia (and maybe even Europe) the forecast is for a medium sized swell to grace your local beach.
Like a lot of the waves in the edit, this one is a grower. Dusty Payne and Yadin Nicol make light work of things you'd sail on by.
Highlight of the day was the 17-year-old brother of local legend Manoa. He blew everyone away.
