Greymouth is one of the largest settlements on the west coast. It's a town steeped in history, and for those with an interest in the past, it's worth checking out the Maori heritage and the story of the gold rush in the 1860s. Those with a bit more time are sure to appreciate the relaxed vibe that comes from this charming town.In terms of waves, just one mile out of Greymouth you'll find Cobden, where you've got two options to choose from, both less than a mile from each other.Cobden Beach predominantly dishes up left-handers, while the breakwater just down the road has a tendency to produce rights. Apart from that, the conditions required are quite similar, so check them both out and take your pick. As with most spots on the west coast, you're not likely to have a problem with crowds.
